Android Stats for January 2017

Why a certain chunk of people would be willing to just live in the past is what is beyond me. There are certain versions of the Android operating system which should not even be used by the “Homo habilis” in this period and time. Well, it seems some people are already having the same line of thoughts as me, at least that’s what the statistics suggest, if they are anything to go by.

The stats for android in January is not too largely different from the last one which was in December. But then, there is a little difference – which indicates the “froyo” absent on the most recent stats. This could translate that more and more people are dropping the old things and letting it pass away while upgrading to new ones too.

Android 5.1 Lollipop still tops the chart with a total of 33.3% on the distribution chart, this is closely followed by Android Marshmallow with 29.6%. Android KitKat comes in at the third position with 22.6%, while Android Jelly Bean completes the top 4 with 11.6%. Google’s latest  mobile OS, Android 7.0 Nougat is still at its lowest, with a 0.7% distribution figure four months after it was released.

The version history of the Android mobile operating system began with the release of the Android alpha in November 5, 2007. The first commercial version, Android 1.0, was released in September 2008. Android is continually developed by Google and the Open Handset Alliance (OHA), and it has seen a number of updates to its base operating system since the initial release.
