Like Facebook, Snapchat is a battery life hog! Fortunately, there are some settings you can tweak to alleviate the problem. Keyword on ‘alleviate.’
ENABLE TRAVEL MODE
This is an old trick that helped to save data during my GLO days. What it does is to ensure that Snapchat won’t continuously preload Snaps and Stories in the background. In other words, before now, Snapchat was eating through your mobile data, even when you weren’t using it.
To enable travel mode, swipe down to access the main menu, tap the gear icon on the top right corner, then scroll down a bit and select “Manage Preferences.” Finally, enable the “Travel Mode” option. Henceforth, Snapchat won’t preload snaps or stories until you click on them.
DISABLE LOCATION PERMISSION
Thanks to Geo-filers, Snapchat constantly checks for location updates in the background. Like you’ve figured out, this drains your battery even when you are not using the app. To remedy this, you need to disable ‘location permission’ (This works on Android Marshmallow and above). Simply head to applications in your android settings, select Snapchat, then choose ‘Permissions.’ Once that is selected, just disable the location option and confirm your choice when prompted.
With this enabled, you won’t get to use Geo-filters, but that is a small price to pay for a longer battery life, right?
There you have it from my end.
