Over 20 billion photos have been shared on Instagram
Just after Facebook announced that it now has over 1 billion users of its mobile apps every month, Instagram, an online photo-sharing, video-sharing and social networking service, reeled out its own figures, announcing over 200 million monthly active users.
Instagram says more than 20 billion photos have been shared on its service. That is up from the 150 million user mark announced in September 2012. Facebook’s owner, Mark Zuckerberg, had acquired Instagram in 2012 and said he will be happy if the application hits 100 million users. Fast forward 2014, Instagram has twice the figure.
The company added 50 million users in the last six months alone, a awesome feat, social media analyst say is awesome.
“More importantly, 50 million of those users signed up in the last six months, which means Instagram grew by roughly 100% in the last year. The 200-million figure is for monthly active users”, Instagram said.
“Today, we’re excited to share that the Instagram community has grown to more than 200 million Instagrammers capturing and sharing their lives every month,” the company also said in the official statement.
Reaching the milestone was inevitable as Mark Zuckerberg, now an astute businessman, let Instagram run itself independent of Facebook.
